Breathe slowly as good as drugs in relieving pain.
Reveals the latest findings, reducing the amount of normal breathing by half could reduce pain. This method not only effectively reduce the short-term pain from burns or wounds, but also could help thousands of patients suffering from joint pain and chronic muscle.
A recent study found that participants who could bear the pain more severe and longer if they follow the respiratory control session. In this session, they were trained to cut the amount of breath by half.
Most healthy adults breathe between 12 and 18 times in one minute. But this research shows that breathing in slow activity to about six times in one minute have the effect of pain relievers.
In this study, researchers from the United States studied a group of healthy middle-aged woman and a group of women who suffer from fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is a condition that causes pain and until now the exact cause is unknown.
Hands of participants from both groups exposed to the heat flowing through the device with the temperature varying. Researchers measured the level of pain that can be held by the participants.
When reducing the amount of breath by half, participants from both groups claim the pain is lighter than during normal breathing.
What causes it? According to the researchers, breathing slowly reduce the pain due to a direct effect on the sympathetic nervous system, the fibers in the central nervous system that helps control blood flow and skin temperature. Studies have shown that calming the sympathetic nervous system can inhibit pain.
